I'm currently with Octopus Flexible
electricity - 23.13p per kwh
gas - 5.41p per kwh

standing charges
electricity - 54.83p per day
gas 28.88p per day

if i fix for 15 months with no exit charge:
electricity - 24.27p per kwh
gas - 5.65p per kwh

standing charges
electricity - 55.79p per day
gas - 29.34p per day

Can anyone advise please - i'm useless with things like this.  Or is there another company i should swap to?

Really appreciate your advice :)

Your flexible rates will be going up on 1 October by 9 or 10%.  The expectation is they will go up a little more on 1 January, and fall to around the October rates in April and July.  As there is no exit charge, you can opt out if these forecasts turn out to be different than these expectations.

Check your fixed offer against the October rate.   Fixed offers can change or be closed at any time, so the choice remains yours.

If you plug your address and consumption details into uswitch.com it can find the cheapest tariff for you.  I tend to take the cheapest deal that has a reasonable reputation and no exit fees

If you stay on Flexible on 1st Oct it will rise to
    electricity - 25.235p per kwh
    gas - 6.167p per kwh

    standing charges
    electricity - 55.79p per day
    gas 29.34p per day

Both gas & electric will be cheaper if you fix with Octopus. But that doesn't mean other suppliers aren't cheaper.

Thank you all so much, very helpful.

Just been on USwitch and for me the best i can see is:

    British Gas fixed 12M v16

    electricity - 24.956p per kwh
    gas - 6.102p per kwh

    standing charges
    electricity - 41.399p
    gas - 23.174p

    exit fee £50 per fuel

Now do i stick with Octopus even though slightly more and fix with no exit fees or swap to british gas which works out slightly cheaper but has exit fees!?  what would you do if it were you please :)

It will come down to how much you use, the lower the use the more if favours BG as usage increase there will be a tipping point that then favours Octopus.
The tipping point should be adjusted to account for the £100 it would cost to move both fuels from BG.
EDIT Another factor is BG only covers a year, the Octopus fix encompasses two autumn periods

Sounds like you're doing something seriously wrong: less than half the average gas usage, but more than twice the electricity.
Any you using any electric heaters or electric showers?  They're both big No-Nos because each electricity kWh costs about four times as much as gas.

..we are with Octopuss, and our 12 month fixed rate ends in October. Just done a "U switch" comparison and Utility Warehouse, are offering a night time rate of 5p compared with 13p we are currently paying(?!)...and the day rate is a couple of pence cheaper...so may be time to switch??
    .."It's everybody's fault but mine...."
  • i'm also in the same boat as most on original tracker til mid nov, do i now lock myself on the gas only at 5.67p and jump on agile for electric, i've been used to paying aprox 4.3p for gas
