Thanks all. I have been looking for an alternative broadband deal, but every time I click through to the provider, it won’t offer me anything. BT is just offering me a 4G router at around £50 a month. Other providers just offer a number to phone saying something has gone wrong. I have no idea why there is no broadband deal for me. Getting anxious that I will be without any broadband for 6 months. If so, it will be a short tenancy!
You just need to order a few PAYG SIMs and put a few pound on them while testing. To save money, try the ones with the best signal as per the online map.
You can purchase your own router then and the cost to you is the SIM only then monthly.
I live semi rural and was offered 20mbps on BT. Instead opted for 4G router and ran my house on EE for the best part of 2.5 years, getting 120mbps. You will get better speeds depending on the router you buy, but if it's only for 6 months then you don't need the best.
Have just ordered one for three and one for vodaphone. I already have 02. 👍

What has the landlord or letting agent said about broadband availability?
We asked what the previous tenant was using and they said BT and that they had no problems with it so it made sense to try them again. But looking on the BT broadband availability checker just now it says there is no fttc available so I am wondering if it was taken away when the previous occupant left and I will have to wait until it is available again. Seems crazy.

Yes, I have checked this and it says fttc is unavailable (I think this is what BT call fibre 1 and 2). I wonder if the previous tenant hasn’t cancelled their contract yet? Maybe I will have to check with the letting agents to see if that is the reason. I don’t understand what else it says on the ava8lability checker, but I do understand what fttc means and fttp (also unavailable).

It wont show Unavailable if there is already an FTTC service at that address, it would show the speeds that can be delivered. Does it show any ADSL products available? Or share a screenshot of the output
  • Below is a photo of the results of the availability checker. I read this as there being no available line to the cabinet.

Yes, FTTC is available at your property with the expected speeds shown, but the cabinet is full so can't be ordered.
  • is it possible is it possible that the reason it is unavailable or cabinet is full is that the previous tenants haven’t yet cancelled their contract or their contract is still live?

Or they have cancelled it and someone else in the area who has been waiting for FTTC has jumped in and taken it.
  • I will have to try the 4g router route and make the best of it then. And find a house to buy more urgently!
