Microchipping

Another kitten question from me!
I'm going to get my 2 kittens microchipped.
I'm not sure whether to get it done when they go to the vets to be neutered or whether this would be too much stress in one day. I don't know if I had it done when they are due to be neutered whether they would be under anesthetic or whether the vet would just do it before or after the operation.
Also, has anyone had their cat identichipped recently? Does it cost roughly under or over £50 per cat. I know this will vary in different areas but I can't remember at all how much it cost for my last cat about 4 years ago.
Thanks.

Ask your vet what the procedure is, but I would imagine that they'd do it whilst the cat/s is under anaesthetic."No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0

usually the vet will microchip while the animal is under anaesthetic if they are being chipped at the same time as neutered
when i had my dog chipped about a year ago it cost £10 in my area it ranges from about £10-£20 per animal:rolleyes: Democracy is a process by which the people are free to choose the man who will get the blame.:j0 -

All three of mine have been chipped without any form of anaesthetic at all so I'm not sure why anyone would think otherwise?
It's a 2 second procedure..........our half feral cat didn't so much as blink (tough little bu*ger), our hand-reared cat gave a silent protest and our Bengal cried for India (wuss-boy that he is).

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -
We had our cats done at the same time they were neutered and cost £12 a cat. It would cost more if we had it done seperate as our course you then had the anaesthetic fee to pay again.
It didn't affect my cats having 2 things done at once.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
normally if you have microchipping along with another proceedure then they do it a bit cheaper. I had my puppy microchipped along with the injections and they charged a tenner for the microchip. He didn't seem to notice the microchip going in.0

i am getting all of my puppies done tomorow while they get there injections before they go to there new homes0

I got our cats and dogs chipped while they were under anasthetic for neutering although one of my dogs came from rescue already neutered and we waited until he was asleep for an operation before having him chipped. Call me an old softie but a friend of my husbands (softer than us obviously) begged us not to have our kittens chipped while they were awake, as his springer winced when he had him chipped  unsure of price though, I suppose it depends on vets.

It's a big old needle I grant you but our vet assured us they inject it into the scruff of the neck which has diminished nerve endings so the animal doesn't feel the pain that you think it would.
Apparently it's why tigers and lions can carry their young by the scruff of the neck.......You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky

When I had my old cat chipped, it reminded me of one of those ear piercing guns they used to use! He didn't flinch when he had it done but he was always very well behaved at the vets. I think he was just too scared to dare to move! After he'd had it done, you could feel it in the back of his neck, it just felt like a large grain of rice.
I'll probably just get it done at the same time they are neutered - at least it they are under anesthetic then they won't feel or remember having it done.0 -

No need for sedation.I meant that as the kittens would be knocked out for neutering, the microchipping procedure would also be carried out under anaesthetic.
If just microchipping is to be carried out, then no need for anaesthetic."No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0
