That would be the sort of running costs you can expect with the M3 you are considering as the subject question of this thread.  The M4 and the M3 are really the same car with different body style.

Whats the point in paying so much money for a car and paying a lot in running it if you can’t use its power on public roads? Why do people even bother getting these sort of cars if they’re not very comfortable

Why indeed?
A nice Mondeo, or a Superb would be better options.
Or, if badge is important, a regular BMW 3-series / Mercedes C-Class
IMO, the main purpose of the "M" or "AMG" versions of the cars is for the brand marketing.

Kia Picanto to an M3 is a significant change of car - the size of car (which your partner might not like) and also the driving characteristics.
Does the company lease scheme offer any alternative models other than the M3?  There might be models that your partner will find more suitable for needs.  If there are EV models available, the BIK benefits will be attractive also.  BIK on an M3 will be horrendous.

I also heard that M3 type models have a tendency to get split splitters, so great care will be required to avoid that if driving over speed bumps, parking up a kerb etc.

Indeed.

I dont understand 

(a) what they think they're achieving, given noone believes them.  They'd have a lot more respect if they just came on here and engaged in the same way everyone else does.  No one cares if someone else drives a fancy car or no.

(b) why they're tolerated by the mods.

Unless enough people are reporting them, the admins won’t take any action.  It’s sometimes a tough call as an admin as you need to make sure they really are a negative impact on the forum rather than just annoying a few people.

Theres another guy who has a vendetta against landlords and has been banned multiple times. He keeps coming back with new accounts and posting the same old rubbish.  It usually takes a while before he posts enough for the admins to get rid again.  I noticed he has just been banned again in the last few days.  That account lasted a good few months.

Trolls thrive on the reactions they get from people.  The best way to deal with them is to not communicate with them and report the thread.
