I have FTWG (similar to FWRG) that pays dividends as well as VWRL and HMWO.
All global equity.
Also have GGRG, VHYL and HDLG for some more variety.0 -
Hi @FIREDreamer thanks for jumping into the convo.
That's a great portfolio you've got going there.
What sort of % do you allocate to each if you don't mind me asking?0 -

Of course the percentage in each one has drifted a bit since the original allocation but as cash is still circa 10% I am not too bothered about that. The low dividends pay the SIPP platform fees and any withdrawals when needed (none yet).
EDIT: ISA is in investment trusts and with an annuity and db pension in payment the drawdown SIPP remains untouched.0 -
I can't argue with that logic @FIREDreamer that sounds like a solid choice of investments. Thanks for sharing it's very much appreciated0

1. When you have run your gone fishing portfolio for three years, you can compare it against the top ten well know "Lazy Portfolios" here, (have a look now). I very much doubt it will outperform them:
https://www.portfoliovisualizer.com/
2. Until today I have never heard of this particular portfolio, so I have just googled "the gone fishing portfolio" and this turned up. I think you will find it of interest. Watch the video as well:

3. For myself I believe in the KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid) doctrine. So I find your portfolio far from simple.
4. If you ever get it of the page and working, come back and give us a yearly report. Good Luck!0 -
Hi there @Eyeful thanks for the message.
Thanks for the links I will definitely be checking those out very much appreciated.
KISS I love that.
I do have a simple long term investing plan (a global all world cap) this is just an experiment but I really do appreciate the time you've taken to engage.
I must say despite some of you not agreeing with this none of you have been condescending/rude etc intact you've gone out of your way to help me on this obscure experience which I find very wholesome so again thankyou guys.
** I have quickly read through your link regarding the portfolio & the reviewer makes some great points & his suggestions to modify the portfolio are great he even links you to a modified version of his portfolio but it's tilted towards US investors it would be great (at least to myself) if the funds he suggested were all available here. I'll have a deeper look tomorrow but thanks very informative.0 -

I've just finished reading "The Gone Fishin portfolio' which I found very interesting but it's US based.
I'm looking to replicate this portfolio for a UK Based investor more specifically on Invest engine if I can.
Can anybody if they would like to help give me some solid UK alternatives as some of these either Aren't on invest engine OR aren't funds anymore.
Many thanks.
I 100% hear what you are saying & I'm not sure if you read my reasoning regarding this portfolio - I'm going to be experimenting it side by side with my Main Portfolio which is an all world index fund BUT I do take on board you mentioning a bond index so I will certainly look into that.
But yes I wanted to see how they run side by side for a year. As many people say go for a more "lazy" but I'm keen to see how this does, but I'm loving the feedback from everyone so thanks again.
When I was working I was 40% US equity index, 20% International ex US equity index and 40% Bond index.
Now I'm retired I'm 60% US equity index. 30% international equity ex-US index and 10% Bonds. In the UK the US and International ex US could be replaced by a single global equity index.
All this is done with 3 inexpensive US Vanguard funds. And so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.0 -

thanks very much for your input & for playing along 👍🏻Yes, that looks like a good reflection of the changes I'd have made. I had a go at modelling the asset allocation using Portfolio Charts. It is a little flawed as I had to classify the Pacific region as "developed world" and the linkers as normal bonds, but it gives a broad idea of how this measures up to other portfolios:It doesn't look bad from the perspective of the 15th percentile (pessimistic) return, but middles the table in terms of average return, volatility and safe withdrawal rate (numbers are rank within set of 20 portfolios, bars on right represent "safe" withdrawal rate).0
