Solicitor letter

Options
Hi all,

I hope someone can help me understand this.

i had a very minor bump about 3 months ago. I admitted liability and thought it was all dealt with. I have this evening received an email stating that they are lawyers who have been instructed to act on my behalf regarding the claim. A lot of added information but no instructions on what I need to do.

it states ‘we have been instructed to assess liability for the claim, unless your insurer has already informed us that liability is not disputed’. I haven’t disputed anything so am really confused.

is this normal or am I being chased for money? I am in a very difficult financial position currently and could not possibly face paying for a car accident?

    Send it to your insurer.
You pay them to deal with stuff like this.

  • Thanks Born Again. I’ll be speaking to them first thing tomorrow. I’m just confused what exactly it is and what the potential for me having to pay out is. It just doesn’t make any sense. Worrying probably over nothing

Any claims made will be in your name as that's who they claim against, you have insurance to cover that claim.

  • Thanks. I just don’t understand what the letter is telling me. Why are they acting in my behalf? I admitted liability, surely the insurer just pays for the repair?

It sounds like a generic letter in case there is any dispute, in which case they would act for you. Send it to your insurers and think no more about it.

As others have said, you must send it to your insurance company for them to deal with.  That will be a requirement under the T&Cs of your insurance policy.

Make sure you keep a copy of it.

However, before doing that - if I were you I would 'phone my insurance company and ask them if they are already aware of this - I don't see how anyone other than you or your insurers could instruct a firm of solicitors to act on your behalf.  I wonder whether your insurer has done so because they are aware that you are being sued but you don't know yet...
  • Surely I can’t be sued for literally a bump on the front wing of a stationary car?!
  • Anyone able to shed any light? I’m now worried to heck that I’m being sued!

Could be an incoming personal injury claim?  Could it have been a crash for cash scam and there were 4 alleged passengers in the car?  Think back to that day and jot down anything strange that may have happened.

A friend is going through this with a bunch of Romanians there was no damage to the car they got aggressive and are claiming a number of non existent children in the car.  Has been going on for well over a year now.  She was worried for her safety and left but fortunately had the good sense to phone the police minutes after the accident but still an ongoing nightmare.
  • No it was really simple. Nobody hurt and the damage was minimal. I’ve seen and spoken to the person several times since and nothing mentioned. I am assuming as the letter states they are being appointed by MY insurance it’s something to do with assessing the validity of the claim being made? It’s not a letter stating they are from the other person. It’s from a firm instructed by my own insurers.
