Broadband switchover day - double charging !!

I have just switched from Plusnet to BT on 18 September. I carefully arranged everything so the switch took place on the first day after my 24 months with plusnet was over using the switching process and gave them over 14 days notice. Now I have found both BT are starting their bill on the 18th and plusnet are also trying to charge me for the 1 day at the out of contract rate. Is it correct to be charged by two broadband providers on the same day when you switch?

On the switch date both providers are providing a service to you for at least part of the day. So why would one provider not charge you?

That wasnt my understanding of how the switching process worked. I even asked Plusnet to cancel my contract but they assured me it would not stray into the new billing period. They misled me and have admitted their mistake but still expect me to pay.0

Yes, you don't switch over at midnight on the dot. Its typically about £1 or 2 and not worth worrying about.1

If you followed the appropriate switching process ( and have in mind the new OTS , one touch switching could be used not the GPL , gaining provider led process ) , then your Plusnet and BT service do not charge for the same day , but until Openreach have closed their activity, that date isn’t known , so you don’t know yet , because you cannot have had a final bill from PN , and you haven’t had an initial bill from BT .
Typically , the day the change is done ( the date OR close their task ) , your current provider bills you for that date , even if they only provided service for a part of that date , and your new provider starts charging you from midnight , so if the switch was done on the 18th for example ( physically done on the 18th , this may vary from the proposed date you may have been given in advance ) then the last date is 18th on the PN bill ( the final bill you haven’t had yet ) and the BT bill starts on the 19th , and again, you haven’t received that initial bill yet, so in short it’s way too early to be complaining that you were charged for the same day twice , frankly if it were two days ago , you haven’t received either a final invoice from PN so you can’t possibly know .0 -
I'd write a letter to complain, except the price of a stamp is likely to be more than any (not yet confirmed) double charge.
I'm all for money-saving the odd quid here or there but I think I'd let this one pass.0
