No earned income I am on limited capability to work due to illness
A non-earner can contribute £2,880 per year into pensions and this will be grossed up to £3,600 by the Government.

Just providing the information about options.  Pensions are a complex subject and I cannot advise that it is a good idea (though it nearly always is).

Absolutely no need to worry about it then :)
  • They definitely won’t class you furnishing your home as deprivation of capital!
Just to be clear, they could if someone for instance bought designer or bespoke items that cost a lot more than furnishings need to cost.  But buying ordinary items certainly wouldn't, for a house that needs furnishing.
I agree, as long as if they were ever asked about expenditure they stated  bought new cooker as it was needed rather than bought new cooker to reduce capital.
    Let's Be Careful Out There
  • Do you know if when I reach 16k and they stop my benefits when I go under the threshold again will they reinstate my benefits and how long does that take? I am on limited capability to work. Will this still apply to new claim or will they have to go through the assessment process again? My savings won’t last long if having to pay rent and bills with no benefits
  • I’ve also just been informed the council tax reduction ends at 6k savings which I was unaware of so I will have to declare savings to the council also
  • If you reach 16k you will have to go though the whole process again, your LCWRA status will not roll over.

If UC claim stops then housing element would stop as well as that is now part of UC.
