Package holiday flying with different carriers

There is an Adult Only hotel on the Costa del Sol which we really like - but only available as an "off the shelf" package through TUI.
Flights on their aircraft to/from Malaga are Thursdays on a 7 day cycle - with BA as an alternative (sub contracted ?) carrier on Sundays.
Therefore we can mix n' match 7 or 10 day options as above to suit.
TUI also employ Easyjet's regular daily service to offer other duration variations.
However after our recent nightmare experience with a cancelled Easyjet flight to the UK we are VERY reluctant to fly with them at all - especially the return leg of a package.
Apologies for the verbosity, the background explanation is appropriate IMO - now to the point.
If I booked such a TUI package deal involving Easyjet for either/both legs and there was a late cancellation by Easyjet - which party is responsible for sorting out the resultant issues - specifically hotel accommodation (if required) and replacement flights etc.?
Is it the airline at fault or TUI as the complete package provider ?
I think I know the answer - but assumptions have a nasty habit of .....................

You'd actually have rights against both the airline and the package provider in such circumstances!
The airline is responsible for arranging replacement flights, and overnight accommodation if necessary, under the UK261 flight delay/cancellation regulations.
The package provider is also responsible for remedying any non-conformant situation, under regulation 15 of the Package Travel Regulations, so my understanding is that you effectively have the choice.
It would probably make most sense to start with the airline, who'd be liable to pay compensation too unless the cancellation was due to extraordinary circumstances beyond their control, but it's a decent position to be in to have a safety net!1
