Options
Just took the plunge and order heating oil for the up coming season as got tempted as was under 50p PL (before VAT). I haven't kept track over summer so don't know if I missed the best prices.

    Location matters wrt pricing.
As does quantity: 500 litres is more expensive than 900/1000 and may be cheaper still in larger quantities.

Under 50p is lower than I have seen for Bedfordshire over the summer and it is currently circa 54/55p so you probably hit a low point...  which came a few weeks after I ordered mine in August for my postcode.

Sorry I should have supplied more info as both points matter greatly. It was 1200l and I'm in Mid Wales.
I started off with Boiler Juice and factoring in their extra charge they were 57.74 so didn't expect it to drop that much.

Location will probably play a part in this as well, but I've always found BoilerJuice to be massively more expensive than going to the local suppliers directly - even ignoring their extra charge.
When we first moved here (approaching 20 years ago) BJ used to be pretty much on a par with what local suppliers were charging, or just a little bit more.  But over the last 8 - 10 years they've just gone silly - it's not unusual for them to be 20, 25, even 30 ppl more than the local firms.  I don't even bother to look at BJ now.
No idea why - I'm guessing it's mostly supply and demand?  But in my area their prices are plain ridiculous.

For the last few years NRG/Conquest has routinely been the cheapest round these parts (East Anglia), but for some reason last week Boilerjuice (Bedford Fuels) came in the easy winner, even allowing for their service charge
  • Boilerjuice is for me normally near the top, but only once was top, it's never been last before.
I get 5 on-line quotes  & 5 by phone, the top 5 were all via phone.

  • In Aberdeen it’s about 64p a litre. A bit off of its 1000l rather than 500.
