Ahh that sounds like the TVL agents alright. Though I saw on a similar forum that apparently you can write to them, removing their 'right of access' or some such!Newbie_John said:I've had similar issues - could have been kids, also could be visitors. If TVL sent me the dates I would know for sure - with generic email I can only guess.
Anyway, purchased a RokuTV stick and deleted all the BBC like things from the screen leaving just Netflix etc. on.
Also marked on the TVL website that I don't need a license again.
I wanted to contact them and pay for that period but still remember a rude TVL guy who visited my rented accomodation in the past and wanted to check every TV, every room.. we had a license but he wanted to be sure that all my housemates have their licenses.. he wouldn't take NO for answer and I asked him to leave, many times, since then I try to avoid them as much as possible.0 -
Ahh you reckon? Tempted to wait it out myself.la531983 said:
I wouldnt even engage with them, its a fishing trip and nothing more.Cornucopia said:I think under the circumstances, I'd be tempted to contact TVL and tell them that they are correct, and iPlayer was used at your premises but it was by visitors during your absence. I'd be interested in their response to that because (a) it wasn't you, and (b) they have no viable prospect of taking things further under their own rules regarding visitors.0 -

If they knock on your door, just say 'not interested' and shut the door. They are just sales people.

Either this or ignore - by mistake they mean that they are wrong and iPlayer hasn’t actually been used. Not that it was mistakenly accessed for a short period. TVL don’t deal in leniency for genuine mistakes.Cornucopia said:I think under the circumstances, I'd be tempted to contact TVL and tell them that they are correct, and iPlayer was used at your premises but it was by visitors during your absence. Yeah I waited another week, got another of the same today, mentioning I need to fill this form in on TVL if I'm not going to buy another licenseKim_13 said:

Will see what they say if I do fill it in! I did it before, like many. And correct, I imagine they don't deal in leniency!!0 -
I suspect that their systems for sending iPlayer letters and registering "No Licence Needed" aren't connected... so nothing will happen. It certainly won't be a protection against further iPlayer emails, because it wouldn't make sense for them to do that.
"No Licence Needed" is something of a figment of their imagination, generally. It's not in the legislation, and really it's about obtaining some personal information in return for ceasing to send enforcement letters (that are also not part of the legislation).
Even so, I would be careful about submitting No Licence Needed, especially if they don't already know your name.0 -
I did it last night as I will be abroad til Xmas, auto-bot response:Cornucopia said:I suspect that their systems for sending iPlayer letters and registering "No Licence Needed" aren't connected... so nothing will happen. Thank you for letting us know you don't need a TV Licence. Your No Licence Needed declaration number is 4*********9.We'll notify you within 5 working days, to confirm details of your No Licence Needed declaration. If you receive a letter addressed to 'The Present Occupier' in the next few days, there's no need to respond; our records are being updated. If any of your circumstances change, such as you start watching live on any channel, TV service or streaming service, or watching BBC Programmes on iPlayer, on any device, you must buy a TV Licence.
I will update the general thread if anything untoward happens for info, but hopefully that's the end of it! But good point, for others to consider, given all the new tech that can trip one up vs traditional live TV.1 -
Also remove the BBC account details from the iplayer app so it no longer works.0
