Ryanair name change, (more than 3 letters)

I've realised with 5 minutes of a mistake when i made my booking with Ryanair.. I'm guessing the booking name has to be exactly the same as the passport name. I've not had a passport for many years, but I've just got one. I always use the name Nick in everyday life, in fact it was autofill that put it in on my computer. My passport says Nicholas. I've tried changing it but the website is quoting me 115 to change it. This is ridiculous . I'll phone tomorrow but what are my chances ?
thanks

the website asks for "Please enter names as they appear on passport or travel documentation"
if no joy with them (don't expect too much but you can only ask) - check if it cheaper just to buy a new ticket instead0 -
Few years back my friend had similar thing and he just added 3 free letters to STH like "Nicklas" and they let him through at the airport. He was going to say at the airport that "up to 3 characters is fine", nobody said anything but he may have just been lucky. £115 looks like you're flying return, and on the return journey you go through border control who also checks tickets - so really 3 checks - 2 gates, 1 border control - could be too much risk, all ot needs is just one grumpy person.
Many other airlines like BA allow free cancellation within 24h - so in the future book elsewhere.
Also if you end up buying new tickets - check in online on both, you'll get a choice of seats (between the two) and also if there is 3h+ delay you can claim it on both..

I would recommend taking a scan of the relevant page in your new passport and saving it as a file in a dedicated computer library folder named "Travel Documentation" or similar for future bookings etc.I set one up a few years back and it contains every bit of reference information that I could possible need to access when making a holiday reservation plus stuff needed for emergency situations - such as travel insurance telephone numbers etc.The old adage applies - better to have it and not need it, rather than the opposite scenario.0
