EU261 claim

I am looking for some advice regarding eu261 regulations. A domestic UK flight was cancelled the day of the flight. I was offered three choices a refund or a taxi or a flight the next day. I opted for the flight the next day and stayed overnight. my claim for the £220 was accepted however the claim for the hotel and accommodation the hotel and meal was rejected. Should the carrier provide the accommodation and meal? Even if they offered me the taxi. - or am I just being greedy!
thank you!

I think they'd have been obliged to fund the hotel and food if the only option was the flight the next day, but if they offered you the chance to get there on the same day, they could presumably argue that the overnight stay wasn't necessary. Having said that, I can see why a taxi might not have been very appealing if it was a long journey, and I'd have thought that train would typically have been a more obvious alternative - what was the routing?0

Still unsure if there's any obligation for them to fund accommodation here but suspect that they'd succeed in an argument that you effectively chose not to travel on the same day, and thereby waived any entitlement to accommodation and meals while waiting for the next day's flight. At the risk of stating the obvious, the time to have that discussion was when they offered the alternatives!1
