EasyJet Delayed Baggage - Compensation Claim

Hi All,
We flew to Croatia recently with EasyJet and our bag wasn't loaded, which meant our bag wasn't there on arrival. It was all sorted quickly and our bag was flown out on the same day, so all in all it was less than 12 hours and we were just very grateful to have our bag.
The airport was >45mins from the city centre, and we incurred costs having to go back to the airport to pick up the case. We also had to buy sun cream when we got there as it was 38 degrees centigrade, and I bought a t-shirt for €10 from Zara as I had a jumper on and it was very warm.
We submitted the claim to EasyJet and they told us they wouldn't compensate any of the costs. I think their rationale was mainly because the delay was less than 24 hours.
Perhaps I can understand not reimbursing the sun cream and the t-shirt, although we had no idea if the case was found at the time we bought the items, and it was very hot and we needed sun protection, but surely the travel costs having to go back to the airport should be compensated for in some way?
Would welcome any thoughts or experiences from others as we wouldn't have had to spend any of the money if our bag wasn't delayed.
Thanks in advanced.

Essential items
If you’re away from home and your bag hasn’t been returned to you within 24 hours, we understand that you’ll need to buy essential toiletries and basic clothing. For this we’ll reimburse up to £25 per person per day, for up to three days (that’s a maximum of £75 per person in total).
