Solar Power not Being Used

We had 11 solar panels giving up to 4Kwh and an inverter fitted (no battery) on 31/7. We have just received our latest electricity bill for August and it says that we have used the same amount of power from the grid as tin July when we had no solar panels.

We started using the dishwasher and washing machine during daylight hours, instead of at night, and have only one going at a time but our electricity usage has not changed apart from that.

The app shows that around 500Kwh of energy has been generated by the panels during August.

Does anyone know what is going on? It seems that we are not actually using the energy that is being generated.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Do you have an in home display as mine give a net output and shows negative usage during generation times.

    Are you selling the excess?

Does your inverter not have an app? Also have you got an export MPAN, I suggest you get one ASAP,.
Edit… I see you have an app does it tell you how much you have exported? and how much was used in the home from the pv and how much from the grid?

Thanks for the replies. We are waiting for our energy to switch us to a new tariff so we can get paid for the excess. The issue is that we do not seem to be using any of the energy ourselves.

These are the import and export (Iassume that's what "IMP" and "EXP mean) readings from the new meter that ws fitted:

I had this when I first got mine - it turned out they had set my export as a charge not a credit, and were charging me for the electricity I was sending to the grid! Soon got that sorted out. Have a look at the details of your bill
  • Another quick check - is the bill showing actual readings or estimates?

The photo looks rather like the generation meter fitted by your solar installer.
  • Those are photos of your generation meter. In my experience they bear very little relation to what's actually going on. You need to look at the import and export figures on your main smart meter.

It is a generation meter .They have the decimal point after 5 th digit .Showing 617 kwhs generated since installation
  • Thanks again. We don't have a smart meter. This is what the original meter shows:

As mentioned, your supplier will need to fit a smart meter and also get an export MPAN.  Then your new meter will show the exported amount.
