Energy company demanding new meter
I got one of these letters

They later denied it but I moved supplier. Anybody else been forced onto a smart meter? I heard you can ask for evidence to say it’s not working

Traditional meters are reaching end of life and should be replaced before they actually fail. It is right that they are replaced with the meters currently in production - smart meters. If you are concerned about the smart meters reporting half hourly meter reads to your supplier then you have the right to ask that this functionality is disabled.

You heard wrong and there is nothing sneaky about it.gadget88 said:I got one of these letters

Meters have finite lives and the energy company will change THEIR meter at the end of its certified working life.
Anything that runs for 365 days a year will eventually fail or fall out of tolerance.

Yes you have to have one, if you do not want one your choice is to go off grid.gadget88 said:I got one of these letters

What incorrect assumptions do you have for not wanting a smart meter?2 -
Based on your nickname I would have assumed you'd be all over a smart meter, so many cool things, so many automations, so many possibilities, so much info, so many statistics.
It really is a cool gadget.1 -
Would have been better if the government had mandated a P1 port like they have in other countries. Simply plug a cable in, and have instant access to live data. Instead, we have to jump through hoops to get a device (such as a Hildebrand or Octopus Home Mini) paired with the meter. With the OHM, gas data is always out of date, sometimes as much as 6 hours..Newbie_John said:Based on your nickname I would have assumed you'd be all over a smart meter, so many cool things, so many automations, so many possibilities, so much info, so many statistics.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

It would have, it would have also been better if the government had mandated a non-optional national rollout the same as most other countries, but as ever our government pandered to conspiracy theorists.FreeBear said:

Were you expecting unwavering support for not getting a smart meter when this is a money saving site and smart meters save money?gadget88 said:I got one of these letters

Short of having the gas meter need to be plugged in, I can't think of any other technical solution to that problem. Although it should be reporting in every 30 mins, if it's 6 hours behind then something isn't working properly.
