  • Thinking about it as nice as a proper degree would be I ideally want to get these under my belt before the girls go to school as this is my plan at restart my career :) So I'm thinking of doing the You and Your Money from may til Oct, then the introduction to social sciences one from feb 09 to oct 09... hopefully by which time I'll be in something job wise which will get me some experience :) Don't want to put too much on my plate and I think those too would stand me in good stead :)

Exactly most employers who ask for degrees do so because they want people capable of doing them, not for the degree; only the easiest demonstration to find of being capable is having done.... but doing some professional/personal development makes it easier to get the experience and the type of jobs that have training.... it's a game really...

    Thanks!

I love studying and really want to do another degree if I can.
I'm the same but more with job based qualifications.. I've got all sorts of bits of paper with short courses and things! Especially with my childcare..

    Let me see I've got...

NVQ Level 1 in Early Years Care and Education
National Association of Goldsmiths Jet 1 Retail Jewellery Certificate

    I'm a bit of a learning sponge... :o

  • You see if you like the childcare and child protection stuff then you would love some of the stuff I covered on my health and social care degree. The OU do all sorts of childhood courses, some vocational and some just for the theory.

    never sell yourself short!

Lucy - I love learning too, and I am 100% addicted to the OU!

  • Tbh since I've left childcare I've not missed it... the wage and working conditions are ridiculous and you get treated like crap by the parents... plus I think having 2 young children of my own is hard enough work without looking after other peoples!! lol! Plus it didn't really stretch my brain at all! I want to do something that challenges me and is worth the effort I put in.. :)

Oh pants!! Nevermind, back to trying to get something through work then. Must pin my boss (i nearly wrote boobs then :rotfl:) down and get him to work out which course would be good for me!

Lucy - if you can't get funding, did you know that you can use Tesco Clubcard vouchers for OU courses? For every £10 in clubcard vouchers you get £40 towards course fees. It might be worth saving up your vouchers if you'd really like to do another course (and keeping your eyes out for Tesco loopholes!) :D

Oh of course, I forgot about the clubcard thing (doh!). They also have a budget account to spread the cost of the courses (you do pay a little bit of interest though).

I will have to get a Clubcard, Tesco is not my local supermarket, but it is OH's... I'm sure he could collect points for me!!

If not I will look into it once I am debt free.
