    Hmmm......office experience.......

    You can:

    a) Use a computer, including many common office applications
    b) Communicate well with people from all walks of life, verbally and in writing
    c) Use common sense and ingenuity to solve problems
    d) Deal with any issues that come up in a mature and sensible way
    e) Handle large quantities of information
    f) Budget effectively
    g) Keep accurate records of all transactions
    h) Type quickly
    i) Be calm and polite, even in the face of adversity
    j) Work well under pressure
    k) Negotiate
    l) Make difficult decisions when necessary
    m) Motivate yourself and work without supervision
    n) Persevere and don't give up at the first hurdle
    o) Make complex financial calculations
    p) Make a good cup of tea

I'm sure I've missed plenty there too.

That, and my supervisory/acting manager experience within customer service wasn't enough 'because I hadn't worked in an office'.

I got the same response before Sar, loads of retail experience, I'm pretty well educated and yet I don't have office experience - weird

Am encountering exactly same problem Sarah and I do have office experience, just it was before eldest was born 8 years ago. I've decided to keep at college till end of year and if I'm still getting nowhere to do voluntary work then to give me current experience. Doesn't help you though as you want the job in order to do voluntary work. My only suggestion is thru Argos once you've got foot in door ask if there is any admin type work they'd like you to train on, tell them you will be doing them a favour if they needed w/end cover in this area due to hols or sickness. ;)

If the only difference between you and them, is that they've worked in an office, and you've worked in retail - then that means office experience is important. Because otherwise you'd be as good as them, and that can't be allowed to happen. Ergo, office experience is the bee's knees, and where it's happening man...and because offices are full of chairs and desks and stuff...

And people who could die and go undetected for a year or two, they all look half dead anyway. And, yes I did work in an office for a really short amount of time before i walked out. Not my scene man
