    Do both parents have to be working 16 hours before you qualify for the childcare element? Could you maybe get extra hours at Argos?

    There's no extra hours at argos that I'm aware of. Everyone's on their basic hours at the moment. Both parents have to be working 16 hrs+ to get the childcare help.

    Great news about CAB! Shame about having to pay for childcare, its a longshot but are they able to offer training in the evenings? How long does the training go on for and when its completed what are they likely to want you to work? Just thinking you may initially be able to take advantage of friends/mil/sil or Steve's holiday? I'm sure you'll have considered all these options :o ! Hows K doing - anymore steps yet??

    Woohoo! got the cheques from scottish power this morning and no sign of them wanting to up our direct debt :D.
    Got a couple jobs I've found which I'm going to call about today. Still not sure whats best to do hours wise.. evenings or weekends.. but we'll see what happens. The extra money would come in handy too...

    I'm unsure of the exact details but like you, I used to think we both had to be working 16 hrs EACH to qualify however, something's lurking in the back of my mind (very scary place) that you'll be entitled to something as long as "the couple" are working 30 hrs as a whole unit - God I worded that wrongly but hope you understand what I mean! - In other words, YOUR hours plus STE'S have to add up to 30+ per wk. I don't know if that's for the childcare element or the working element, but it might be worth a phone call (or dig out the paperwork) whichever is easiest - in this pigsty it would be easier to make a call than to even contemplate finding the paperwork LOL! ;);)

    We've claimed the childcare element before and it's that both have to be working at least 16 hours each... I wish it was combined though it'd be a lot easier! lol
