and so it begins.... K's been in bed since 6.15 but woke up and kicked off as we put Ash to bed. Ste's now doing the controlled crying with her.... they've been going 20 mins so far... she seems to be crying less though so fingers crossed she'll drop off soon....

One tip I was given about kids not sleeping (relating to Ryan, obviously) is to not look them in the eye when you go in to their room, but look at their tummy. Turning your face away completely can be upsetting for you and them, but this way they can see your face, which reassures them, but they don't have the stimulation from the direct eye contact, which is often what gets them all lively and excited again.

Have you got a date in mind for the Egg card to be repaid? You have done so well getting through Xmas and still having almost two thirds of it saved up.

And do let us know when you do your first gig, I [strike]demand[/strike] would love to come! :p

    Hi IA

You may be onto it with the nap - my oldest never ever had naps - from being about 6 months old he would stay awake right through the day. Admittedly, he hardly slept at night either until we did controlled crying with him at K's age and since then he's slept like an angel from 7pm. My second was the same from about age 1. He just didn't need a nap and would go all day till 6/7ish and then sleep soundly through the night.

It was exhausting through the day to have the two of them constantly running me ragged (they're 18mths apart) and I did get twinges of jealousy at my friends who had chill out/get things done time while their kids had 2 hour naps up to school age but it was worth it for an evening and a full nights sleep!

They both still go to bed at 7 (they;re 3 and 5) and sleep till 7am. I just had to make sure I did tea quite early so they were pj ready for 6.30 as if i left it too late they'd get very grizzly and overtired.

Good luck with the controlled crying .... just bear in mind it may take a week or so to have any effect.

Happy New Year to you all!

We had a party last night and I drank lots of vodka and took a chunk out of my thumb :( I was opening wine with a corkscrew and took my eye off it, pushed down on the little arm things to pull the cork out and got my thumb trapped :( It is very hurty and is still bleeding on and off now. It's quite deep but hubby says its ok. The vodka helped numb the pain, lol. Cooked a big dinner for the in laws today and my gran which was nice but I am knackered now. Never realised how exhausting entertaining was!

Hope all goes well! It was odd but mine always slept worse at night if they missed their daytime nap, they should have slept longer/better but never did, something to do with getting overtired and not able to unwind properly:confused: . Anyway fingers crossed and remember consitency is the key!
