Basic Bank Account

Here, on the floor, wafer-thin and oozing blood like an M25 hedgehog, lies my credit rating. Thanks in more than part to plundering by the NatWest these last forty years, I'm no more able to open a basic bank account (money in, plastic to get it out, no overdraft, no credit, no loans, insurance or mortgage) than Adolf Hitler - in his current condition. I've googled such things, and there are companies ready and willing to "arrange" to get me a basic bank account, but I don't swim very well in pools infested by sharks.

Is there any way to get a basic bank account with a subterranean credit rating? In these modern times, you can't even get a job without an account.

have you tried the post office or co-op bank seem to of seen there names floating around.

Hi,

Am new to all this myself - but saw this written earlier - apparently Nat West do step accounts and they dont credit score - not sure how right this it but thought would pass it on - you dont get a cheque book or overdraft or anything just a solo card.

Yes, its possible to get a Basic Bank account and is quite simple to do - without paying anyone to arrange it!

Have a read of this leaflet from the FSA about basic bank accounts - it includes a list of providers.

You haven't told us why this is the case and which institution(s) have turned you down. Bad credit rating alone, shouldn't be a problem, unless you are an undischarged bankrupt ot have a record of fraud. Is that where your problem lies?

The flourish is my style - I'm a writer. No, I'm not a bankrupt, disclosed or otherwise, just another person down the sink of bad credit. Sorry about the flourish. Quite how disclosing my personal details may have altered responses is unclear - perhaps you can eludicate?
