Life-Threatening Ingredient Found In Food - What Should I Do?

Hi MSE Community,
I ordered some "Super Greens" and found this extremely sharp, tough and rigid ingredient in the powder. It has obviously not been blended properly into the mix.

Please see images to see what I'm talking about.
I nearly consumed this had I not spotted it and checked. Serious chocking hazard and could have been an A&E job.

As this is part of a wider order where I ordered other products can I request a refund on the whole order as I dont trust the rest of protein powders. Also, what consumer rights do I have and can I escalate this, if so with which body?

Your advise is appreciated.

Hardly life threatening. Had you read the reviews about the daily greens then you would probably not have bought it. There are several saying that they made people vomit and gave people stomach pains.

I would complain and ask for a refund of this bag but I dont think you will be entitled to send the whole order back.

Life threatening is complete hyperbole, this is not a risk at all. This is a powder that one has to scoop out, put in a shaker, mix with water and then drink. However trying to drink it the lump would be below the mixer grid so would not come out if it has not blended into the water.

My advice would be to tell them, they will likely give you a full credit and a free bag, as they did when one of my bags of Huel Black split in transit.

The correct step to take is to report it to your local authority

For example:   Instructions | Report a problem with a food product (norwich.gov.uk)

Your rights are based on what did happen rather than what could have happened. So unless you've been signed off work and sent to a psychiatrist for PTSD etc then nothing did happen. In most cases companies will refund the cost of the item in question and sometimes add a token amount on top, this is often done by way of vouchers.

Councils and other regulatory bodies are the ones that deal with what might of happened but even then they are accepting that things go wrong and so look to ensure they are doing reasonable checks for the most likely risks... most using a production line for food production normally use strong magnets or X-rays to check no metal (eg a bolt/screw or nut) has managed to get into the packaging but clearly these techniques wouldn't pick up some plastic but then thats more likely to be malicious rather than something just shaken/broken loose over time.

Used to work for a supermarket's customer service team, occasionally for a change used to work in the post room. For perishable food customers were instructed to take it to their local store who'd use cold chain to get the item to our foreign objects team but occasionally a customer took it upon themselves to post a pack of mince that had glass in it etc... that wasnt a fun package to open after it'd taken a few days to get to us and a couple of days to be opened etc in a nice warm office.
