You don't have a contract with Amazon, your contract is with the seller in China, so pretty much no hope of getting any refund.

You could try and track down the seller from other more current sales listed on Amazon, i.e. get their email etc, but there's nothing to say they're still in business.

As an aside, I'm a member of Amazon Vine (we get free products from Amazon to review) and many of them are these types of goods, made cheaply in China, and no hope of ever being able to contact the seller. To be honest, based on what we get delivered, I wouldn't personally pay money for many of the items on Amazon that aren't actually sold by Amazon. They're fine as free items for us to review, but very rarely do they last the expected time if you were paying for them.

  • It's a light so consumable.  If your ceiling light bulb fails after 4 or 5 years do you threaten court procedings?   OK LED's can last longer
but they generally do not last the 100k hours they claim unless they are run at fairly low power to minimise heat.

When you want bright light from the LED's you need good quality units with decent cooling.

100,000 hours average, but usually not in the same power outputs we are demanding from them.

Livermore Centennial Light, been running almost 24/7 since 1901.   Not at 60 watts though but at just 4 watts.

There is little point in quoting the expected lifespan of an LED at people until you know *for certain* that the issue is due to a failed LED.  Which from reading your post, you don't.  It *could* be a failed LED, or it could be a failed circuit board, or a loose power connector etc.

Even if you did track down the retailer, you'd not be entitled to a full refund - as they'd be allowed to deduct an amount to account for the usage you've had (4 years).

An alternative option - find a local electronics repair shop and take the mirror to them.  It may turn out to be a quick and easy fault to repair.

An average, by definition, means some will last longer and some will last less, generally 50% on either side. That doesn't mean that all in the 50% that dont last quite as long are entitled to a refund years after buying. There will be a "reasonable" lifespan, normally less than the average lifespan, which will be the boundary.

That said, having seen that Amazon isn't the retailer and instead its some China based firm the whole thing is a moot point because you've a snowballs chance of litigating against them and then receiving a penny of money back from them.

If you particularly like it then take it to a local repairer and maybe its a cheap fix... that said, when a friend did similar with something else the repair place condemned it saying it was exceptionally poorly made and dangerous.
  • Thanks everyone. Given the circumstances, especailly the fact that it's a 3rd party reseller, I'm throwining in the towel.

As galling as it is, some battles are just not worth fighting.
For what it's worth, I have quite a few very similar demisting/illuminating bathroom mirrors in my house; when one failed after many years of use a quick multi-meter check confirmed it was just the transformer that had died and five minutes rewiring a £5 replacement off Amazon brought it back to life. That was a couple of years ago and it's still going strong...

The most annoying thing with mine is that it had been professionaly installed when we remodelled the bathroom and they stuck in on properly and I can't even budge it!

Do you mean they glued it to the wall rather than screwing it?

Screwed. It looks exactly like this. Note it's not a cabinet version. Just a mirror.
