HELP! Parking at O2 dome, New Years Eve!!

Can anyone help? I've bought two tickets to the Take That New Years Eve concert at the O2 but am told that parking is limited and I should have been pre-booked in advance - something I only found out at the weekend. All attempts to book a space online or by phone have failed - either engaged tone or website error.
Does anyone have experience of just turning up for parking.? We're staying at the Holiday Inn at Dartford so need car to travel to/from the O2 - around 13 miles one way. We're travelling from Nottinghamshire and have zero experience of London public transport, plus we don't know what transport is running in the early hours of New Years Day.
Can I just turn up early, reserve a parking space at the dome, then go to the hotel, register, then return back to the dome later?
Does anyone live within walking distance of the dome? I'd be happy to pay the £20 the rip-off merchants at the dome are charging if I can guarantee a parking space.
Note that the concert ends at 1.30pm in the morning, so would not wish to disturb homeowner to retrieve car.
Any help or advice appreciated.

I know the tube/buses in London are free after midnight for NYE travel.
More info here http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/transportaccessibility/6584.aspx0 -
I called ticketmaster to try and book spaces, but they were doin doing advanced bookings for NYE.
So everyone will be in the same boat...
I'm travelling from Liverpool!!!
I think there will be spaces and also more car parks close by!
Hopefully.0 -
Sorry, not much help
I wanted to say that I thought the £20 was a rip off, but we parked there from 10 am on a sat for an eve concert so we had about 14 hours in a car park in london for £20 which isnt to bad.
Just to add though it is a huge car park, my guess is if you are there early you will get a space0 -
I went last night and a back in November, parked at TESCO in Leytonstone, the tube station is just down the road, few stops on CENTRAL line, changed at STRATFORD for the JUBILEE line couple of stops got off at NORTH GREENWICH and the O2 is right there, Hope you have a FAB time0

Do they have patrols there and time limited parking ?0 -

It's easy getting there by tube, but pretty horiffic leaving. 20,000 leaving at the same time and squishing onto the trains
I wouldn't drive to the O2, but just be aware that leaving using public transport is like a 20,000 strong rugby scrum :A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A

Does anyone know if you can turn up at the O2, book a parking space, then drive away so that you can come back later and your space is reserved?0

I've always used public transport but a colleague recommended parking at Greenwich station (think approx £3) and walking over. No further info as have never done it myself but might be worth looking into.2009 winnings: private box at the ballet, a cooking lesson with Jean Christophe Novelli, a case of wine, £25 itunes downloads, a candle, Football Manager PC game, a lipstick, £2500
