  • Seems to be a lot more requirements than on their previous offers. Not that I'm eligible anyway.
  • I’m not eligible either. I’ve noticed that the TopCashback offer is the same. You can’t have had an account ever.
  • is it possible to switch a joint account into a FD sole account? ive already got a switch going for me personally and want to get it for my husband too but only had a joint account dormant atm.

Or should I just do a joint switch to joint account because he will still get his £175?

Fairly sure FD have always had the "never held a current account before" criteria, although I read that it says "first direct product" which could also include other things like CCs, savings, mortgages, etc?

You can only switch sole --> sole, sole --> joint, or joint --> joint, but never joint --> sole.

Given you've already started your own sole switch anyway then I'd definitely avoid a joint switch. Your existing account sole account will make your husband ineligible for the incentive if he opens a joint account with you. Best approach to maximise the rewards is to each open a sole account and switch individually. If you really want a joint account then you can convert one/both of them to joint down the line after the incentive has been paid.

Has anyone received their £175 yet for this offer?
  • I got mine this morning. I need to check my husband's as his switch only completes today but I imagine he will get his over the next few days.

Now I can start the co-op switch.

Unless you have no savings, FD is worth keeping (setup a second account with someone else, move over any DD or SO etc to the new one and transfer that) for the regular saver, £300 a month paying 7% which hasn't dropped for a few years despite interest rate changes

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
