Pension credit

Hi everyone my mum receives £232 a week state pension and attended allowance which is just under £300 a month. She doesn’t claim pension credit as she’s currently living with a family member. But has been offered a flat in a sheltered housing for over 55s .
Will she be able to claim pension credit on that income and she will need housing benefit also .

any advice

  • Think your question might fit better on the Benefits etc board.

  • She is not eligible for PC as she receives over £218.15 in state pension. She may be able to get HB, what does she have in the way of savings?

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
  • Pension Credit has disability premia which increases the entitlement. Given she receives Attendance Allowance she may be eligible.

It would be worth calling Pension Service to discuss whether she would be eligible.

    1. 4.1  Standard minimum guarantee

The weekly standard minimum guarantee is £218.15 for a single person and £332.95 for a couple. If your income is less than this and you meet the other qualifying conditions, you may qualify for Guarantee Credit. If your income is higher, you may still qualify if you are entitled to any of the extra amounts in this section or some income can be disregarded.

    1. 4.2  Severe disability

An additional amount for severe disability can be included in your appropriate minimum guarantee if:

    • ⚫  you get AA, DLA middle or high rate care component, PIP daily living component, or ADP in Scotland, and

    • ⚫  no one is actually paid Carer’s Allowance (CA), Carer Support Payment in Scotland (CSP), or the carer element of Universal Credit (UC) to look after you (if someone only has an ‘underlying entitlement’ to CA/CSP, they are not paid CA/CSP), and

    • ⚫  you live alone or are treated as living alone.

If you are a single person and you qualify for the severe disability addition, an extra £81.50 a week is included in your appropriate minimum guarantee.

Might have to wait for her to move then apply. She will need housing benefit straight away . The housing place is £200 a month but includes some bills and a warden
