Delayed Ryanair flight leading to massive car hire bill !!

Does anyone know if Ryanair will do anything do compensate me after their 2 hour flight delay led to our car hire being cancelled (with no refund) and massive subsequent last minute taxi costs and alternative (much more expensive) car hire. Incredibly the car hire company closed at 11pm and we advised many hours earlier that our flight delay would mean we could not get to their office in time but they still treated this a "no show" and charged us in full for the unused car !

I would be very surprised if Ryanair would pay for your consequential losses.  Travel insurance should be the ones to pay for you additional costs following the flight delay.

As frustrating as it is, the airline are not responsible for your consequential losses. Your travel insurance may help you depending on your level of cover.

Thank you both -  the initial response from the insurer (having taken the best policy from a so called "blue chip" provider) is that they only pay delay compensation for > 4 hours delay - I have lodged a complaint and lets see where that gets to !

I think your arguement and hopefully sucessful outcome is with the car hire company.

They can be as intransigent, when it comes to common sense, as airlines.

Time to read through all the small print of car hire agreement.

And perhaps unfair business T&Cs law/act.

If its a company such as Goldcar, good luck there...
