    Thanks, the question has evolved a little from the original post, sorry for the confusion - I never needed to go down the joint account route

    This is not about transferring money to myself - simply about a parent transferring money prior to death, and if this changes anything to do with inheritance tax/nil rate band. I am aware such a transfer counts towards the estate, but I read (perhaps incorrectly) that the timing can impact the nil rate band.
