Estate agent boards

Options
I have noticed what seems to be a new trend of photos of estate agents on for sale signs
For me it just seems really cheesy
This is one of our local ones.
Honestly what is it all about!!!

  • That's come over from the USA.  They've had the realtor on signs for years.

There may be an element of 'psychology' here.
    • If an estate agent puts up 'standard' bland signs, nobody really takes much notice of them, or remembers them, or discusses them
    • But if an estate agent puts up "truly awful" signs, people notice them, they remember them, they discuss them with friends, they post about them on MSE and other social media sites. And it generally helps raise awareness of the estate agent.

It's a strategy that was started by washing powder brands many years ago. Nobody was taking notice of their sensible adverts, so they switched to making "truly awful" adverts to get people's attention.

(When asked, lots of people say they actually avoid a brand because of their "truly awful" adverts, but the sales figures suggested otherwise.)

  • As BarelysentientAI says, it’s American, and while I’ve nothing against Americans, I really don’t know why we have to adopt everything they do however crap it may be.

Yeah but there's a much clearer link between the agent with a face on the board getting YOUR money when you use the agency than there is for those responsible for the poor advert getting your cash when you buy soap powder.

I'd love to say I'd avoid an agency who did this, but the last rental I had to market - having been given a very poor service by the agent I usually use on the last job - and seeing three of this agency board go up, 2 sales and 1 rental, all three sold / let within days, I used the agency.

    They were poor. :(

Truly awful. That would immediately rule them out for me !  As would over-use of hackneyed phrases such as "in the sought after location of [insert name here]..." ; "nestled in..." ; and "complimented by" when it should be "complemented by ".  But these are simply signs of me becoming a grumpy old soul perhaps.....
Or a house I saw recently which was apparently "on the crux of the local primary school".

A board with a face on suggests a one-person agency to me and I would avoid.

and why bring a dog into it!
  • Tbh I don't take a lot of notice of ea boards. If I'm house-hunting I'll keep my eye out if I see a property I like and then fire up RM. Unless it's purple bricks etc then I don't give it a second's thought.

Perhaps her with the dog is meant to inspire confidence and be "relatable". Look! I'm a real person just like you, and I have a dog! I'm not a big faceless multinational! Or something.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.
  • I have never seen one, but I don't like the look of it! Irrelevant, but I also don't like book covers with real people on them. 😬

Great advertising,  I met Elizabeth when I was viewing houses to downsize.

She makes a great effort to know about local matters, and was very helpful.

I remember my shock at seeing a large photo on someone's CV in 2010, the photo was like a watermark in the actual paper.
