Moving from SKY to Vodafone Broadband

I have contacted SKY to see if there are any offers to upgrade my Broadband, they offered me £40 a month for 300 mb/s, £38 for 150 mb/s, even tho back in July the prices were lower.
I notice that Vodafone offer good deals. Has anyone moved from SKY to Vodafone? How does it work? Do you just connect your SKY Q Box to the new router, as i watch quite a bit of streaming services like Youtube. Thanks

You need to check if the Vodafone offer is using Openreach network ( like Sky do ) or it’s over an Alt Net ( like City Fibre ) , if it is , then a new ‘line’ needs to be installed ( so new CSP and ONT ) , may not be a big inconvenience but something to have in mind .
Sky ‘streaming’ will work on CF , but you should check if your Sky TV is discounted for having Sky broadband, obviously if you stop using Sky broadband any discount you may have on Sky TV will be removed.0 -
Sky to Vodafone transfer is Openreach, so you dont even need to tell Sky you are going, just sign up with Voda and give them a date for starting and Sky will end same day. I did the exact same switch in June.
As above though make sure moving broadband wont affect your other prices, and obviously make sure you are out of contract for the date you give Voda, can be 4 weeks in advance iirc.
The Sky box will work on any broadband, just hook it back up in the settings once its installed.0 -
How do you know the OP is definitely going to be using VF on Openreach , VF use multiple networks, so its not guaranteed that it’s an OR to OR switch , or are you claiming that VF don’t use Alternative Networks like City Fibre as well as Openreach ? , it may well be Vodafone on Openreach , but your assertion that is definitely that , is based on what ?

Apologies if this isn't the case 100% of the time and I have offended you.0 -
How do you know the OP doesn’t live in an area served by both Openreach and CF ? , in those areas , Vodafone prioritise City Fibre , so ( if that’s the case ) the OP wouldn’t simply remain on Openreach , it’s likely it is Openreach only , but it’s unhelpful to assume that’s the case , especially when Vodafone are the ISP0

I cannot get CityFibre, Youfibre, Virgin or any other similar provider. It will be using Openreach lines.0

How do you assume he maybe is in an area with multiples? Ask first respond on clarified info, is more helpful.

What you need to compare is the bundle cost. Vodafone are extremely cheap at the moment for a straight broadband deal, the issue comes when you want to see what the cost is for your Sky package on top.
Vodafone offer both through OpenReach and CityFibre. If you have access to CityFibre, it is an excellent product, and they are offering 900M at less than 500M. The install is a minor hassle, the new cable has a tiny little modem fixed to the wall and then depends how locked in you are to your WiFi setup (easy enough to set network names the same to save reconfiguring every home device or use the same router if you have your own). Your old network will remain ready to be swapped back to at next contract change if that is better.0 -
