She has now applied for a Tesco fixed saver account. Application completed online and they say they require more information and they are sending a letter by post. She actually worked for Tesco for over 30 years before retiring a couple of years ago. They asked for her clubcard number and that will show that she is a former employee.
I could be wrong but imagine that the request for a Clubcard number is simply to allow access to promotions, affinity deals and the like, rather than to interrogate anything else stored there, so even if Tesco Bank were to identify that the applicant was previously employed by the supermarket entity, that's unlikely to make any difference to ID verification processes that are driven by financial regulators.

I seem to recall applying for Tesco Bank accounts years ago and I was accepted without issue but they wanted all sorts of documentation and data for my other half's application, so you might find that the forthcoming letter is more onerous than you'd expect!

You may be right. My biggest worry now is that by the time she completes the additional verification steps by post, the offered rate might have changed. As mentioned, Atom bank have reduced their rate in the past couple of days.
