Hello
I’m trying to help someone with their newly installed air source heat pump.

I have absolutely no idea about them or how they work but I’m reasonably good at working things out.

The problem is we want to test the heating before it gets cold but turning up the thermostat and boosting the heating doesn’t engage the ch pump

Water is fine
heating (sun) is enabled on the control panel
thermostat works and is talking to control panel
thermostat was set above current temp

temp was 23c inside thermostat
21c outside on heat pump
thermostat set to 30c for 30 min boost

controller is a Panasonic Aquarea
the thermostat was a wiser something or other

I read that it has weather compensation, is this preventing it from coming on in normal running mode?

If I put the controller in standby and then enable forced heating in the menu, the central heating does come on when thermostat is set above current temp, pump activates and circulates as expected.

I hope all is ok and it’s some type of weather setting.

I looked into the installation menu and can see weather compensation curve. Have zero idea about how it should be set. Underneath this menu option are 3 or 4 other heat on/off options, all with various Celsius or time ranges, no idea what these should be set to.

Thanks

I have a Daikin heat pump not a Panasonic so I am not familiar with the intricacies of their controls.

Mine does have a setting that will never allow the heating to run when the outside temperature is above a set value. It is adjustable.

    Look at that maybe.

It could also have a heating schedule set?

Best to read the manuals in full.

Heat pumps have many adjustable settings, you may have to go into a higher/installer menu to access some settings.

    Where is the installer?

Don't mess with it if you don't know what you are doing.

Heat pumps do not work like a gas or oil boiler.

If it is set on a weather curve you may not even get it to run for very long at 23c outside due to the low flow temperature.

The radiators/ufh will not be able to get rid of enough heat and the water will go back to the heat pump too hot forcing it to shut down.

To get it to run you will probably need to increase the flow temperature when it is that hot outside.

  • I have an LG ThermaV ASHP.  The way Weather Compensation on my heat pump works, you can set a maximum outside temperature for heating and then a minimum outside temperature for cooling and if the outside temperature is between the two then the heat pump remains off.  Even though my heat pump is set not to cool, this still applies.

If you are using a Drayton Wiser thermostat you should see a flame symbol when the thermostat is calling for heat.  Your friend should have an app called "Wiser Home" that controls programming and timings.

My Aquarea won’t engage heating mode when the outside air temp is above 17 C so this is likely preventing your test. You can adjust this set point by going into the installer part of the controller interface but you may or may not be happy to rummage around those settings. I can let you know exactly where if needed. We’re supposed to be getting some cooler weather soon so you may have more luck then?
