Following on from your recent request for information regarding your HSBC personal loan, which was taken out 17 years ago, I do have access to your loan application which was scanned on to your records on 27th April 2007. I am more than happy to provide you a copy of this, should you wish me to do so. However please bear in mind this is the only information we hold regarding your borrowing, due to the banks data retention policy.

I can confirm HSBC never offered car finance loans, we offered personal loans for a range of reasons/purposes. And for the purpose of your personal loan application you decided to use the funds to purchase a car and this totally different from a car finance loan.

Kind Regards

This response above seems to me reasonable but I would appreciate some re-assurance before I close the issue down.

Not sure what you are asking here - the DCA issue related to PCP deals, you appear to be asking about a bank loan which is nothing to do with the issue at hand?

A PCP deal is done between a dealer and a finance company, the DCA issue was the sales person inflating the APR for more commission.

You applying to the bank for a loan from them doesn't involve commission so couldn't be affected as they have explained.

You should remove the name of the staff member from the post too, fairly sure it breaks forum rules

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Edit the original post and remove all personal information.
  • It looks like you borrowed the money from your bank & bought a car with the funds, therefore DCA will not be applicable.

DCA is only applicable if you arranged the finance while you were at the car showroom.

Thanks to those who responded and provided me with just the confirmation I wanted that my bank were correct in their response to me and that I need not pursue the issue.  In fact I will instead be thanking them for their response since so often the only response from customers is negative.
