The friend didnt do you a favour by applying for the job, you did them one for referring them. Your employer saved significantly on recruitment fees hence gave you a small percent of what they'd otherwise have had to pay.

Everyone got something out of it, yours is the referral bonus.

Yes.  Yes, you should.  "Needing the money", due to a house move, is merely deflection, and a defence for greed.

Your friend got in touch, you referred him, then he got the job.  That's 50/50 in my book.
    What rubbish.

The money is yours to keep.
It's certainly rubbish to those with very low reading skills.

Abbafan1972 actually admits in their post that "...but it's only thanks to my friend's efforts in his application and interview that I'll be better off."  The referral didn't get the friend the job, it only began the process.

Any suggestions that the employer saved on recruitment fees are wrong, as they had already paid to advertise the job.

you definitely don't need to split. Doesn't make any sense . All those moral dilemas are mostly so pointless. I had that in college all the time when i used https://academized.com/write-my-admission-essay services. Now i understand ho smart was that. I have lots of good memories from those years
