Hi,
I am currently trying to sort out the return of a faulty graphics card with Maplin. I bought the item around two years ago, but the capacitors on the card have blown up one by one over the last few weeks. After researching on the internet it appears that this can be commonly caused by poor quality capacitors.
After initially contacting Maplin, as I expected from previous experience with most high street shops, they flat refused to repair or refund. After quoting SOGA they still refused and said that it was company policy not to accept returns after 12 months.
After a number of emails and a recorded delivery letter threatening legal action and exscalation to trading standards (all of which were ignored) I eventually recieved an email from their customer service manager asking for me to call her or provide details for a call back. I have been trying to contact her since Friday to no avail.
I will post back on the outcome, but I am so mad that this is another major high street chain who show complete disregard for the SOGA and yet are allowed to continue trading in this way.
On their website, they even state that their returns policy is to repair or replace an item if it is faulty, but only within 12 months (info.maplin.co.uk/help/pages/9). Why have trading standards not prevented this practice from continuing? It seems that most high street chains are under the same illusion that their liability ends after 12 months.

Hi
im having a similar problem.
I brought 2 netbooks for my kids for xmas and on xmas day they would not work.
I phoned them on the 27th and was told i could take them to a store which i did and im still waiting for a refund.
I emailed Maplin and had a reply back saying that i would have a refund back by the 10th of january at the latest.
I telephoned them today and was told they received it on the 4th of january and it was waiting to be booked in WHAT ARE THEY ON ABOUT?
It takes over a week just to be booked in now im being told it wont get looked at till the end of the week.
I wished i had looked at the reviews that has been posted online because as of now i am out of pocket by £180 and have 2 kids who are in tears.
SORT YOURSELFS OUT MAPLIN BECAUSE IF YOU CARRY ON WITH THE SERVICE YOU ARE GIVING YOU WONT SURVIVE MUCH LONGER0
