Anyone have experience of maplin returns?

Options
I am having some trouble with maplins and wonder if anyone has any advice.

On the 14 december i bought a bare bones PC. Payed in the shop but pc was for home delivery. When i tried to get it up and running i found it was faulty and telephoned for them to collect and replace it. They wanted to test it before exchange ( i believe they can under the soga). I was told that i may have it before christmas and that they would rush it through urgently. It was collected around 22nd and i have heard nothing since.

I called today and was told that it is still "awaiting and engineer for testing". I asked to speak to manager to be told there are none working today (?).

Would aprecciate any advice on how to get this (now very late) christmas present delivered.

Cheers

Chris

  • Something similar happened to me when I bought a PC from Evesham.com. The customer has the obligation to give the supplier a reasonable amount of time to test the item but Consumer Direct (or trading standards) advised me that, if I was not happy (and I certainly was not after the way they handled the problem) to send them a recorded delivery to "reject all offers of repair or exchange and demand a full refund "under the relevant Act)". I would recommend taking such action and buying a PC elsewhere.

we've had very poor experience trying to return even 'small' value items to Maplin. Won't buy from them any more, due to poor CS>
    good luck !

Why wouldn't they quote the actual Act, why wouldn't they know what organisation they were?

I bought something a while back, part of a larger order. It was faulty. I phoned the line. They sent a replacement straight away and told me to bin the faulty item. We're talking £20 of stuff here so nothing startling. But still I was surprised, in a good way.

    I couldn't fault them.

    Yep im the same

I ordered switches and when they arrived they were 24v. I needed 12v, they just said send them back and they would refund me and not charge me the £10 handeling fee.

Maplin were great even though it was my fault and i had them for about a month before I went to fit them and noticed. They guy I delt with was
Liam Wenham if thats any good to you.

    Hope you get sorted soon

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

My local Maplins has always been very helpful and willing to exchange faulty items, or give a refund if stock not available.:T
  • Im having a similar problem with Maplin. I purchased an item for £25 in-store and it simply won't work on my laptop. I tried to return it to the store but they refuse to refund as they cannot check in-store of it is faulty. Surely they should have the facilities to do so if it was purchased in store?

Anyway, I called customer services and was told I could send it to their head office so it could be 'checked' but this will take two weeks and I'll have to pay for the cost of recorded delivery! Pretty p'd off to be honest and feel badly let down.

I'll send it back but I'm not holding my breath after reading all the really bad reviews about their returns policy on Review Centre and Ciao. Something really should be done about this as it seems they simply make the rules up as they go along.

Also, the in-store staff told me I should have read the T&C's which are on my receipt - which of course I received AFTER I purchased the item.
