Youfibre massive installation delay

I ordered a Youfibre package and installation was set for 19/07, stupidly I canceled my FTTC as the contract had run its course and it was expensive. I figured it would be fine as I set the date for cancelation a week after the Youfibre go live date and I didn't bother to search for any issues with installations that people were having which I see now was a mistake.

Up to now I've had 3 failed installation appointments and I'm no further on after close to 2 months. It's pretty crazy, I was thinking I'll just go back to FTTC for 12 months and let them figure things out but knowing my luck it will all be sorted a few days later.

The issue that I was told on the 12/08 is...

Unfortunately, I do not think the installation will be able to go ahead as the issue with the CBT (connection point) has yet to be resolved.

I have been informed that the telegraph pole CBT's are congested and would require a chamber CBT.

Everytime I ask for an estimated time or expected install date I get the "within 5 days, we're sorry" speech. Has anyone got experience of this and can say how long they had to wait? I think I just needed to rant but hopefully someone will read this before signing up and leave their old contract running until it's working!

  • Im not an expert, but I think OpenReach own the poles, so YouFibre are maybe having issuing getting them do the described work?

Do a lot of neighbours use the pole i.e. is there a lot of cables going to each property?

the normal way a network provider builds a network and then offers services is to build , test , and then offer service, so the question is , if there is no ‘space’ at the pole top for CF to fit a CBT , why are they offering service if they haven’t provided the CBT that is necessary to actually connect the customer ? .

If the CF solution to the lack of space at the top of an Openreach pole is to build a jointing chamber at the foot of the OR pole , then run the optical cable from the house , but instead of connecting at a pole  top CBT  , it attaches to the pole , runs down the pole into the ( new ) joint box and connects to a  CBT that was provided in the box ….if they have to build the box and provide a duct to the foot of the pole , and put the CBT in there , that’s  obviously an added expense for CF something they may decide not to do .

The arrangement CF has with Openreach as far as using Openreach infrastructure like telegraph poles ( via PIA ) is already extremely favourable to the Alternative Network, they pay pennies per year to Openreach to put a CBT on a pole , but if there is no space at the pole top , that’s just tough for the Alt Net they can’t ask OR to remove their own equipment to make space ,

Obviously if that means they need to actually build some infrastructure for themselves to use ( like a new pole or a jointbox ) that may mean its  no longer  cost effective for them to offer services , because they  base their costs  on using Openreach infrastructure and therefore only  do areas that are ‘cheap’  ( for them )  then they will cancel your order , you can’t force them to honour anything ….however they may decide it’s in their interests to do this work or they may not , how long it takes for them to decide to do it ( or not do it ) and if they decide to do it , how long it will take is something only CF will know .

Joke of a company, so annoying. Looks like you nailed it iniltous.

I am writing to provide you with an update on the status of your YouFibre Broadband order.

Our Network Partners have identified some complications in connecting you to our external network. The reports have now been reviewed by our build and network design teams to identify the remediation work needed to get you connected.

Unfortunately, despite exploring all possible alternative routes, we regret to inform you that we are currently unable to connect you to our service due to issues with the physical infrastructure and network design.

Our build team has quarantined the addresses effected whilst they work on a solution but this means that we are unable to complete an installation and, as a result, we must cancel your order at this time.

I understand that this news may be disappointing, and for that, I sincerely apologise.

It's nice seeing those high speeds of FTTP pop up in price comparison websites for my address when I check now and it seems everyone else wants a 24m contract. I got excited when they started knocking on doors back in May/june, contract buy out, no price rise, £1 a month for 12 months type deal.
