Hi all
We've just had a written quote (below) for removal of 2 existing boilers, replacement with a combi boiler, changing 2 radiators and adding one new one - quote includes all materials and labour. The plumber is corgi registered and employed in that capacity normally, this job is a piece of self employed work for him and he is not VAT registered (I presume due to low self employed work volumes).
Quote is £2488.98 which I though was way excessive - but looking on here maybe it's a good price - we're in Gloucestershire (SW England)? My in laws had their whole 3 bed terraced house done in the same street for this price 5 yrs ago with 10 new radiators which is why it seems expensive.

- Does he sound all right?
- Price good/bad or OK?
- Any issues I need to think about? Says on here something about having a new combi without flushing the old system down?
- He hasn't mentioned certifiying the paperwork for the installation.
- OK that he hasn't mentioned sizes of radiators?
- Why has he chosen this boiler which, including the flue and mechanical clock costs £1000 incl VAT on the internet when you can get a condensing combi boiler with 7 radiators and pipework for under £750 on the net?

The obvious thing to do is get another 2 or 3 quotes. trouble is "Corgi Guys" have you by the proverbial S & C.
I would guess that less than half that is materials, leaving about £1300 for 8 hours work, nice if you can get it.
cue some corgi guy telling us how hard it is to become Corgi registered!0 -
Good afternoon: Whoever does the job must hold his /her own CORGI registration number, should flush the system, notify the installation to Building Control, and complete the Benchmark log book. Get at least 3 fully itemized, written quotes and compare like for like. The price you have been given is reasonable in my opinion and if done competently (and legally) would take at least 3-4 days as every job differs...of course there are plenty of cowboys ready to take your money for a 1 day bodge job installation that doesn't comply with Building Regs and voids your manufacturer's warranty ...too many of those tales of woe on MSE  Lots of info on this forum about boiler installations and the relative merits of various systems, legal requirements, 'Best Practice' guidelines, links to manufacturers etc.

Good morning: Yes I am...I don't provide misleading info to fellow MSErs. Post the same query on www.diynot.com (plumbing and heating forum) for further opinions. An excellent source of current requirements can be found here... http://www.miketheboilerman.com/newboilercost.htm

Do you mean 3-4 days, at 8 hrs per day, or the usual tradesman's idea of about 3 -4 hours for a full day?0

Good morning: For my OH typical day is 8 hrs. plus (and time on here every day helping out fellow MSErs with plumbing and heating problems...this I can't quantify but you're free to conduct a forensic examination of his contributions if you have an abundance of free time on your hands... lots of helpful advice if you need it;) )

The man said he could do it in about 2 days as he only has to cap off the one lot of pipes and fix the new boiler in where the other existing pipes are. How does that sound? Sarah0

2 days is about right to remove old stuff and install a combi boiler.
the boiler is about 700 quid so i make all the materials approx 1000 quid.
so it seems to be about 750 quid per day labour.
or maybe max 3 days if inc the extra radiators, still makes it 500 per day.
bit steep if u ask me.Get some gorm.0 -

8 hours? surely a tiny job like this could be done in less than 4 hours including at least 3 tea breaks and rifling through the lady of the houses knicker draw. That makes it £325 per hour - outrageous.0
