I am going to make a huge tray of home made lasagne with veg mince and we have some fruit cake made by an elderly auntie.
Tomorrow will be whatever the family really fancy and what I can manage in the small top oven (large oven is broken!)"This site is addictive!"

I always get a pack of half-price smoked salmon when I do the before-Christmas shop. I freeze it and bring it out for New Year's Eve. This year I'm trying this recette
It is basically layers of cubed potato, smoked salmon, creme fraiche and cheese -sounds lush. I was going to do chocolate fudge pudding for dessert, but I think we'll be too full won't we ?
There are some fab recipes on this site, very simple and quick. They are contributed by readers and most have comments. The comments are really useful as people have lots of suggestions for variations or improvements. I must thank Sarahsaver for bringing it to my attention :T It has an English version but I don't think it is as good. There's also a great children's site.0 -

When you do the lamb with anchovies, you can't really taste the anchovies, it seems to bring out the lambiness somehow, makes it more savoury. I think it's an Italian combination, and it is truly yummy.
The big joke is that we won't be having it after all. MIL sent two big packs of lamb chops down with us, which we thought we'd eat tonight, but they hadn't defrosted even after 5 hours driving (OH drives slowly). So tomorrow we'll be having lamb chops ... but I'll still do all the 'trimmings' and to get the anchovy theme I'll do special broccoli.
Lightly cook your broccoli. Warm some olive oil and butter in a frying pan and add some breadcrumbs and chopped anchovies. Cook until crispy, then add the broccoli back in and toss them together (cos of this you can do the broccoli a bit ahead).
And no, in case anyone is wondering, my kids are normal. They won't eat this (well, normal is a movable feast ... DD loves boiled sprouts, that's not normal for a 6 year old)Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000 -
It's DH's birthday on January 1st, so we usually have something special. We often have game, and this year have a brace of pheasant that DH caught locally. We'll have them with roast potatoes, sprouts, bread sauce, parsnips.

Well, we had planned on having our tradional Steak pie with mashed tatties and turnip. However, bargains cannot be ignored
We had a late trip to Mr T's today and I got a leg of sweetcure ham (cooked) for £4 so the habit of a lifetime will be broken tomorrow. The only thing I can't decide is whether to have it cold or to heat it through.
What do you think?
Not too sure about how to carve it either. It's obviously got a bone all the way down the middle, so should I try to carve it around the bone (like a pineapple) or vertically?A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0 -
Not going to cook a New Year's dinner. Stopped this years ago after making it and some guests couldn't come as they were poorly (self inflicted) . Just going to make a big pan of soup and they can have it when they come home.If I had known then what I know now . . .
:A Official Boots Tart (I seem to be retired just now though) :A0 -
OK. All the family have gone home. Just OH and me. We are planning sausage and mash with savoy cabbage and leeks
We have eaten so much that all we want now is comfort food :T Ginger cake with toffee sauce as dessert (yummy).
The sausages are hand made, from the farmers market supplier we love and the gravy will be made from scatch with onions, stock etc etc etc.
In past years we have always travelled to the coast and had egg, chips and peas in a little cafe overlooking the harbour. Absolutely brilliantEnjoying an MSE OS life0 -
after all that, I'm not fit for steak pie _pale_
good news is, there'll be more for the others ... mind you, given the size of it (see post #27, I think?) thre'll still be some for me once I'm sober again0
