We usually have roast lamb. This year I am going to stuff anchovies and rosemary into the skin and then baste with the oil from the anchovies. Children can have the meat from the middle! Served with roast potatoes (still have some goose fat), veg and yorkshire puddings and gravy. Served with lashings of decent wine. THere are some mince pies in the freezer and some brandy butter in the fridge.
Only problem is that we are still in Scotland, our lamb is in the freezer in Bingley, W Yorks, and whether we can buy any fresh veg and wine depends on what time we get back!Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000 -
Steak Pie here too! Luckily for me my mum is making for my family so I get a day off.
However, there was a recipe in the magazine of the sunday paper I read yesterday and it sounded lovely. With sausages!

kunekune - anchovies with the lamb sounds interesting. I'd never have thought of that. I assume it tastes nice (or else you wouldn't make it?!)....
My DH loves lamb so I'm always looking for new ideas.

I usually make a HUGE steak pie in a turkey roasting tin, cooked with the pastry on because we love the soggy underneath as well as the crispy top. it's just not the same if you haven't got all those lovely gravy-soaked layers to peel apart & savour

I did try making my own once & it was a great success, but a huge faff & no better than shop-bought, a lot more trouble than it was worth, so frozen it is for me
I do a sort of half-lap join to put the pieces together & make it bigger (we like our crust thick) & it's never fallen apart on me yet
I just noticed the OP's looking for a veggie meal too, probably a bit late to help out with that now, I only noticed this thread this morning
for ease, I'd buy a good quality plain pizza & load it up with luxury veg toppings, extra mozzarella & a drizzle of good olive oil
if I'd more time I'd do a selection of vegetable curries or a vegetable croustade0 -
In Italy people eat pigs trotters stuffed with minced meat and spices (zampone or cotechino) with lentils, the lentils represent wealth because they symbolise money. People also eat grapes for the same reason.
As we are mostly vegetarians I never bothered with the pig feet (yuck!) but always made lentils to be eaten around midnight after the regular buffet of mixed bits and pieces that I would offer any friends that came along on the night.
This year I have declared that I am fed up of organising stuff at my home so what we will do with the immediate family is go to a local Indian restaurant early in the evening (will eat lentils there!) and then the teen go off to do their own thing and we either have a few friends come around of we go to them and then at 11 we walk to a point where we can watch the fireworks that happen at the London Eye.
