Can I claim? Confused by rules.

Whilst in Turin this week, my return flight to Gatwick was cancelled by British Airways with 27 hours’ notice due to “operational constraints.”

BA offered me a substitute flight home but this ran from Milan to Heathrow, and left 2h15m earlier than the original flight. Both the cancelled and replacement flights were just over an hour’s duration.

This schedule change necessitated rebooking my planned activities for the Thursday (the tickets I’d bought were non-changeable and non-refundable), buying a train ticket Turin-Milan, buying a bus transfer from Milan Central station to the airport, and then buying a tube ticket across London to get to the right station for my pre-booked journey home.

BA said that they wouldn’t cover any incurred costs due to  the cancellation but I wanted to check this as it’s left me out of pocket. Can I claim the expenses from BA? Or is this one to send to the travel insurance?

Yes, they are obliged to pay the additional transport costs incurred due to the rerouting, to cover the travel from the original departure airport to the new arrival airport

You'll need receipts, but if you submit the claim online then normally they are pretty good paying these, it can just take a while!
