Octopus renewal to new fixed tariff
Hello,
What load of a malarkey it is to change tariff, so much so I'm considering to move from Octopus.
They say it is easy to change tariff using user account dashboard, that's not true!
I've tried both with App and Web based and informed that the option to change tariff can be done using the dashboard, rubbish there is NO option on either.
I tried by getting a quote to change, but I can't because I already have an account! The quote is not valid !
This too is completely unacceptable.
So if it's easy as they say this should be achievable, otherwise they should not promise they know it can't be DONE.
I now have to wait til Monday 2nd Sept to be able to have a personal conversation.
To be honest they're more concerned about offering gimmick schemes to save energy that for me are useless, latest use as much electricity between 1pm and 2 pm as you can, when most people are at work, or collect poke'man type icons in your area to win a car.
I want a no nonsense provider offering low prices
The site is like a early years children's play area
regards

On my account homepage there is a tab labelled "Change my tariff" That leads to a quote and terms and condition for a fixed 12m tariff ( assuming on standard variable tariff ) Seems straight forward,2

I’ve just had a look on my account. I clicked on ‘change to a fixed tariff’ on the app, this linked straight through to the website ( yes I had to enter password). I then could review and accept. All took a couple of minutes. But thank you for reminding me to fix now, before it’s too late.2

From another post on this forum, try this URL, with your account number inserted in lieu of "accountnumber" octopus.energy/dashboard/accounts/accountnumber/tariff-renewal/#/ this just worked for me.

If you're currently on a fix then I don't think they show the change tariff option until your existing fix is expiring. However you can access if via the link posted above.3

As is mentioned often the link to the change tariff page disappears once you have an active fix - but people without a fix wouldn't be aware and so post about it being on the homepage.
The link is octopus.energy/dashboard/accounts/accountnumber/tariff-renewal/#/ with actual account number A-xxxx substituted and bookmarked afterwards, and this can be used to keep an eye on each new issue of fix - though they have been slowly rising since the end of July - and can be used to easily switch fixes as those since February have been without early exit fees. Monthly statements clearly show when there is a cheaper tariff option available.
It's more just disappointing than being a malarky that they remove the link, but it's still easy to change by contacting them, something that's also necessary to get variable direct debit when that should also be possible on the dashboard - which like the app is cluttered with less useful info. The current 1-2pm scheme is also less than fantastic - its more complex than being "free" and using more energy is hardly a good thing.0 -
