Old Compensation Cheque

We had a flight issue where we were awarded compensation if £688. This was given by cheque in late 2019. We thought we would have time and planto lodge it and spend on holiday 2020. But not long after Covid hit both personally and then widely with lockdown and holidays etc and even being able to go to bank stopped. In the mayhem the cheque was mislaid and only recently found. Our bank has rejected the cheque because of age and the travel company is refusing to reissue. Not sure what our options are.

Letter before action to the cheque issuer / company concerned and small claims court.... Debts have 6 years to be honoured... and we're not at 5 years yet (quite)... They know you haven't cashed the cheque so still owe you the money?
Home Insurance or Union Legal Advice line might be able to confirm my take on the above.
Of course if the company concerned has gone bust in the interim, but been resurrected all bets are off.
