Are you a mechanic or use to be as you have well seem to be as I’m not a mechanic lol great knowledge and not only that you definitely explain it in a easy method for me to understand so I really appreciate that.
going off topic a little i would of normally rang the father in law but he’s just found out he has cancer of the liverand he’s having a op in 2 weeks so want to leave him well alone last thing he needs is a nagging son in law.
back on topic I’ve just spoke with a mechanic on the phone as I was going to order the new hose but he said on the phone well it could just be the o ring inside gone bad and might not need a new hose but for the stake of £20-£30 I said isn’t it just better to replace the hose cars done 115k and like you mentioned common to fail as well.
thanks again

Yeah, it's probably the o ring in the connector, pipe end that's shot. A new pipe will come with the o rings already fitted.
You could if you had a stack of different size o rings strike lucky and find the right size. Then the other oring goes in the other hose. New hoses come as a pair with new o rings in each.
Get the size wrong and you'll be fiddling with this for ages, that is if it's the o ring, the pipe or connector could be cracked.
To tell you the truth, if I was your father in law I'd want everyone to treat me as normally as possible.
Problems like this would keep my mind occupied and show him he's wanted and still useful, even it it's only a bit of advise.
But I'm not your father in law, so perhaps tread carefully, if the conversation turns to how are you doing, maybe mention the fault, how you have diagnosed it and plan to fix it, see if he agrees.

I don't think they fit.
The heater matrix is the same but the ends to the engine are probably different.
I think 13251459 is the right part number but have no car reference to cross check.
You might have to ring around the VX parts specialist or go direct to the dealers parts counter.0 -
If it's a 1.7 CDTi from around 2010, the engine code used by VX/Opel is one of the A17 DTJ, DTR, DTS, DTC or DTE range.
They are all very very similar but the ancillaries like heater hoses will all be the same.
Number 21 here.

If you can't find the diesel versions heater pipes, you could try the petrol versions pipes.
It's the end to the heater matrix that's leaking, that end will be the same on all models as the heater matrix itself would be the same for petrol and diesel.
You might have to modify the other end of the petrol heater pipes to fit your diesel engines coolant system.
You might have to shorten it, easy enough with a Stanley knife.
You might have to lengthen it, a bit harder.
To lengthen, you have some extra pipe the same ID and OD. (the old pipe).
You just need a internal internal pipe joiner of the correct size (1/2 inch or more like13mm??) and a couple of jubilee clips.

If you buy a used one you get a pair of hoses.
It's two hoses wrapped together.
Spilt yours and keep the good one attached.
Then split the used pair and just use one half to replace the leaking one
You will then have a good spare in case either leaks again0 -
Why are they paired together out of curiosity in that like rubber sleeve and yeah I’ll do that thanks£2820/£4000 0% 24 months pay £150 HSBC
