So, it appears the travel company have accepted that it may be their problem ?
If the other passengers have logged into their own accounts are were able to change my name then yes this is a fault and should not have been allowed to happen
    That was my point.
Which travel company is your booking with ?

it will vary by operator but most of the time all that is needed to log into and change a booking is the booking reference and surname.  Sometimes an email too, and others a password if the booking was made with an account.

When making amendments to bookings some airlines/agents have a pop-up or tick box stating along the line of "I have the consent of all other passengers in my group to access and manage this booking."  (that example is BA)

It will be interesting to see the holiday company's response.  But if the ex-friends have logged in using the OP's details, or they accepted that they had permission to access and manage the booking then they've essentially acted fraudulently and it would be hard to pin blame on the agent.

You may look to recover your losses from the ex-friend that made the change.  Small Claims court would be an option.  Depends how much proof you have of who did it (the agent may be able to provide when it was done and with who's log in details)

I suppose it depends on how much the poster is out of pocket ,they could just write it of and move on with their life,

If you feel vindictive you could try logging in and changing their names.

can you log back in and change it again?

I am guessing not if all details have been changed and you have been kicked out. How do you know that happened
  • I received an email from the company to say the name had been changed from mine to the new individual. I could log in with the new passengers details that i have from this mail and revert the information back to my own but i no longer wish to go on the holiday and simply want the money i put into the booking back and for the charges to be placed on the new individual.
Essentially cancelling my own booking and having a new individual as a new passenger and not a name change.

The new individual will have a different name obviously - so is that substitution not in effect the same as changing the name ?

Not in financial terms, cancelling my own would refund the money I have paid into the booking (excluding the deposit) and charging the new passenger. Currently the new passenger has taken ownership over the money I have paid into the account due to the fault of the name being allowed to be changed.
