Hubby wants to buy a sony 40 ins and install it on the wall. Pl can somebody advise wat he needs to do to have it install. I am thinking what about the video, dvd & sky+, where do you hide this surely it will not look right if you put them in a tv cabinet? Also the cables, what to do with them? I am sure somebody will be able to advise me with this. I am sure some of you must have yours installed on the wall either DIY or professionally. Thanks

It can be difficult...
I guess the first question would be to figure out what kind of walls you have, if you have older, brick walls then it should be a lot easier. Newer, stud type walls are more difficult.
Older walls simply require a decent drill and oversized screws (window screws are good for this). Newer walls require some more planning. If you have studded walls, then you'll want at least one part of the mount to be secure to the wood. (again, made easier by buying the wider mounts) If you have no wood in the walls (like we do) then you'll need larger bore studs. You can find these in most DIY stores and essentially they are a large self contained screw, to which another screw is inserted into the centre. They have huge bores and are wound into the sheet-rock (plasterboard) are are pretty secure.
You'll need a decent mount (try AV Rabbit for selections and advice). Try and get as wider mount as possible to spread the weight. (without going beyond the width of the TV of course) The TV will almost certainly be in excess of 15kg's. Oh, and you'll need to figure out if your TV is VESA compatible (mounting standard) being Sony it will be, but check the dimensions. Some smaller mounts can have limited fixings. Again, try looking at AV rabbit to source your mount.
Hiding the cabling is easier in newer walls as you can drop it down the hollow section. You can also hide them in white self-adhesive trunking, which makes maintenance simpler, but isn't quite as neat.
If you're having your sources (Sky, DVD) located away from your TV, then you'll need extended cables for this. These are faily easy to find online.
Hope that helps - have fun!0 -

Get a professional company in, they will sink the cables into the wall etc. I had mine done upstairs with a magic eye to the downstairs, it cost approx. £275.Hello i'm BrickingIt.
