Trying to get a refund out of Enterprise rent a car

I recently hired a car from Enterprise rent a car. I thought I had booked it through rentalcars.com for £350 for 4 days in a Ford Galaxy, however, when I turned up at the airport there was no sign of the booking, and I later learned that rentalcars.com had cancelled the booking and not taken any money from me.
Enterprise were still able to get me a car, but at the spot price of £700. (double the price) I took it because I needed the car, but am now pleading with them to get some sort of refund.
Am I chasing a lost cause? or has somebody found a way to shame them into refunding some of the extortionate profits?

Paying spot prices is often very expensive, regardless of what you're talking about. Enterprise have done nothing wrong so I don't think you have a hope of getting any sort of refund from them.
In future I would suggest booking with the car rental company directly. From my experience Enterprise are excellent.
In a similar way, I would also book hotels directly rather than via an agent (unless I need package holiday protections). Going via an agent makes things more messy if problems arise.1 -

Why aren't you following up with Rentalcars? It's nothing to do with Enterprise.0
