MSE sim-only deals do not work for new numbers

I want to get a SIM contract for my son for the first time.

I have picked an O2 deal from MSE and when I go through to O2 I select "add a new mobile number to my existing O2".  This adds the deal to my basket but when I check out it insists that I enter the mobile number - which doesn't exist yet.

I have gone through O2 live chat and they insist I can only pick deals from their website (not as good).

I haven't tried creating a separate O2 account for him.  Does anyone know if this works and if this is the only way to get that deal for a new number?

Ad far as I'm aware MSE O2 deals are exclusive to MSE.

Are you an existing O2 customer? Do you have an online account? do you want to add the new contract to your account?

  • @lookbook I don't understand your reply.  I have clicked on the O2 deal on the MSE website.  It takes me to the O2 website and puts the MSE deal in my basket.  But when I checkout it asks me to enter the mobile number, which does not exist.

I am asking if these deals work for new mobile numbers.

    Yes.  Yes.  Yes.
  • Have you signed into your account at this point in the checkout? They are probably asking for your existing phone number so that they can verify your ID (they will probably send 2 texts, 1st a warning, second a code).

Yes I have.  I would try entering my existing number but I'm afraid they will apply the new contract to my existing number.

The first O2 screen that appears is pretty specific about what you want to do. As long as you've taken the second option you'll be OK. In any case, is the offered deal any worse than the one you are on now?

  • @flaneurs_lobster I bit the bullet and went for it and it did generate a new number for the new contract, so I think everything is fine.  Thanks for your guidance.
