so I assume this means we'd still be good to go with small claims etc as this is the ltd company that would be listed etc
    Hello OP

A company can fold at any time, when looking at Companies House you can click on the director's name and it will show other companies they have or had in the past, the filing history might also show whether the company has any assets.

You can't rely on this; I know of someone who has serially Phoenixed companies over the years, but you wouldn't know that by looking at his current company's records. Companies House is pretty poor in tying records together IME.

Doing a search on the director's name may show other companies he has previously been involved with that may not show as being linked to the current one.  I hope the director doesn't have a common names (the person I refer to doesn't), otherwise there may be a lot of records to plough through.

Each director has, in theory, a unique director-number that ties together all of their directorships. This breaks down when directors (for whatever reason, jump to your own conclusions here) end up with multiple similar-but-different director entries.

    e.g.
    Johnathan Clive Smithers, D.O.B. 23/8/78
Clive Smithers, D.O.B. 23/8/78 "because everybody calls me Clive, this is okay right??"
    Jonathan Clive Smithers D.O.B. 23/8/78
    Johnathan Clive Smithers, D.O.B. 25/8/78

All of which are involved in the same type of company, all of which are now struck off/liquidated etc. and were all born in the same area.

When you attempt to cross-reference from their current companies, all looks good, you have to look a little bit side-ways to find their other identities linked to the failed/no-longer-active companies.
