Arunmor said:Op what are you wanting this car for? Towing a good weight (what does that mean?) and 1.2 are incompatible.
I struggle with where I live with the noise and being overlooked so wanted one that'll tow so in time I can buy a cheap caravan and escape at weekends. Not that I've ever towed a thing but hoping someone can help.
Unsure if I've made a mistake not getting this one yesterday because maybe there was a genuine reason the car has different specs on the paperwork from Renault
Extremely overwhelmed and upset in trying to find a car it's just too much to navigate. With the DWP hassling me to spend the money from my car written off it is an awful situation0 -
With your mainly town driving you're right to avoid a diesel. You need something bigger than a 1.2 litre if you intend to tow a caravan, imo.1

The 1.2 (TCe130) was the lowest-powered engine offered in the Kadjar - but even so, 130bhp and 150lbft of torque is non-trivial.
It's rated for towing 1500kg, with the 85% kerb weight recommendation coming in at about 1250kg. That's plenty for smaller caravans.

As well as looking at suitable caravans for your use.
Do you have suitable parking for the caravan?Life in the slow lane1 -
OP start looking here and get an idea of what cars would be suitable. I wouldn't worry about a few kilograms either way but worth sticking pretty close to what they suggest.
Are you really going to tow a caravan? Be truthful with yourself.
If you drop the towing aspect it will give you a lot more choices.
Go and search for "Best Small SUVs" adding a year eg 2016 or 2017 will help as you will find cars you are more likely to be able to afford on your budget.

Have you thought through buying a caravan- it is just as stressful as buying a car?
Check your driving licenec at to what weight you are allowed to tow.
Do you have space to park a caravan when not using it? Some estates/councils have restrictions on parking caravans.
Caravans need servicing etc the same as a car.
Do you intend stying on caravan sites? More cost , sites are busy in peak times, neighbours can be noisy , and you can be overlooked, the same as at home.
You cannot just park up anywhere .0 -

150ft/lbs of torque at 2000rpm. Compared to a diesel with over 230ft/lbs at just 1200rpm.
85% is just 1110kg on some models.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...1 -

I've just travelled 12 hours to collect a car and now am stranded without one as I walked away,
So I've walked away. Did I do the right thing?
You did some checks on the car and had genuine concerns so you were correct to walk away.
It is a tough thing to do, especially having travelled so far to see "the one".
Can you search closer to home for next options?1 -

Pedant alert. "ft/lbs", torque, really? What are ft per lbs? Torque is lbf ft or Newton metres (Nm). Note force in front of distance.
